January 2013

Blankets for Sandy Hook Elementary Families in Connecticut.

In December of 2012 just before Christmas break, there was a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.  26 people where killed and the entire country mourned with the little Connecticut community.

So, to help, our Riverside Red Hawks decided to make 26 blankets, one for each family of the victims.

Each student colored a square of material, and then over the Christmas Break the squares where sewn together to make the blankets.  When they returned to school, the blankets lined the walls of the halls!
It made me cry as I looked at the hundreds of squares all put drawn with such love.
How sad to lose a loved one, especially a small child ever, but especially before Christmas.

This is Brennan standing next to his square.

Brennan said his square was of a family laying on their backs looking up smiling.

This is the Quilt made by Mrs. Gubler's Class.  Brennan's square is in the bottom, right corner-ish!

We hope these bright colorful blankets brought comfort to those 26 families, and were reminded more then ever how grateful we are for our children, and eternal families...

A day with Grandma Nelson!
Because I had a doctors appointment, Levi whet to hang out with Grandma and help her around the house....Little did I know that he was going to get to go Monster Hunting...

Monster Hunting is a very dangerous job where you have to have special tools to protect you....notice the feet warmer around Grandma's neck, and Levi's special cane!  Luckily no one was eaten by a Monster!

Also, while at Grandma's, Levi receive and old pair of her sunglasses which he needed to model for me! (Love the no shirt look....silly kid!)

This is one of my favorite pictures....Levi came into my room and asked me if he looked like a "Rich Guy" cuz rich guys get all the girls.
When I asked him where he'd get  all the money, he said..."oh from Grandma, I earned it for getting rid of monsters! " It totaled $3!

WE LOVE BASKETBALL!!!
Dad returned to coaching basketball after a long 8 year break...
I'd forgotten how much fun it is to sit at games...the sound of sneakers squeaking on the floor, fans cheering for players from the stands, and the student body dressed in rally clothes chanting!

The stands were packed on both student and the parents side tonight for the game against Desert Hills Thunder...

Of course what's a game without a great half time show?  Here are the "Dad's" dancing...fathers of some of the players, cheerleaders and dance company kids.

This is right as the buzzer sounds and the kids are headed to the floor...

Lots of Panther Fans out tonight!

The Boys and I think we are Dad's Number One Fans!

Way to go Dad, keep up the good work!

January 2013

Poor Dad ended up with his yearly cool!
(always comes just about the first of the year) just finally catches up
As tough as Dad is....Football, that starts the end of July and runs until November when Basketball starts, then all the tournaments right up til Christmas with no break, really wears him out!  Poor Guy!  I thought the mist around him while he was sleeping in the chair looked really cool!

For Christmas Brock asked for new bike accessories in the color purple......we had no idea what he was up too over the school break!  Well, now I wish I would have taken a "before and after" picture, because he took his old bike, spray painted it white & purple with this cool faded look, added all the new accessories!

He added cool purple tires given by Nana & Papa

Crank, with a new purple chain, from Mom, and hand grips from Grandpa & Grandpa.

Even Dad got involved with his creative process....

Brock's bike looks so cool!  I even let him bring it in the house for this picture!
Great Job Brock, you amazed us all!

I new Blog begins!  Well, blogging isn't really new to me, but I have changed titles and links, to be compatible with my gmail account!

As promised to a couple of my close friends...I have given facebook a chance for a year and can't say that I love it!  It has a tendency to become a black hole of time! Also, I've have found I much rather blog so that pictures have a little more meaning, and that my blog can be printed each year to look back on as a family journal.

With that being said...I'm going to start at the beginning...well maybe not the very beginning, but the beginning of this year.  Okay, I'll just jump back to the end of December 2012, that way we won't miss anything for this year! :)
